July 17, 2013: A home in the US has was destroyed when a demolition crew got their addresses mixed up and bulldozed the wrong house.
A man in the US was shocked when he arrived at the site of his home to discover it had accidentally been demolished by absent-minded council workers.
When David Underwood arrived at his Fort Worth, Texas, property on Saturday his wife sensed that something was not right, My Fox DFW reports.
"We came around Silver Creek looking for the lot and my wife said, 'David? I think the house is gone'," Mr Underwood said.
"We looked up there and sure enough, it's gone!".
The city of Fort Worth confirmed that contractors had accidentally bulldozed the wrong home.
"The property to be demolished should have been 9708 Watercress Drive," the city's code compliance office said in a prepared statement.
"The property that was demolished was a vacant structure located at 9716 Watercress Drive."
Although Mr Underwood was not living in the house before it was destroyed he said he had lost personal items and antiques when the property that had been in his family for decades was razed.
The city of Fort Worth now faces a hefty bill for destroying the home that Mr Underwood and his wife had planned to move into.
The city is investigating the accidental demolition.
