Some of the reasons I focus on nutrition in Plastic Surgery | Midwest ...

plastic-surgeryI am trying to go a new pathway in my blog ? a little bit at least. I?m going to start talking about cosmetic surgery a little bit more, although I have talked about it quite a bit in the past. As many of you know, I am opening up a new office in Glenview in 2013, and I expect to be doing quite a bit of cosmetic surgery/procedures, with my own flair and passion for nutrition and natural solutions, of course.

The reality is if you start off with the person who is eating right and has a healthy lifestyle, as opposed to someone who is eating a ton of processed food, sugar, etc. or is on regular starvation diets/fad diets, the chance for success with plastic surgery is much higher for many reasons.

(1) A person generally feels better about themselves because they are eating better. That is, fad diets make a person stressed and anxious, and often people are grumpy and depressed because of the semi-starvation aspect of many of these diets. This affects their overall outlook on life, and results in people looking for surgical solutions to problems that can be treated with a fork and knife (the other kind!). The fact is eating right is powerful. It not only makes you look better, it really does make you feel better. And it?s not just this flighty sense of euphoria that most people get when they starve themselves, but a deep sense of comfort, happiness, and general good mood. In these cases, the cosmetic surgery that I do in these cases is really only a touchup, in the purest sense of the word. Sometimes, it just involves talking about how to get the most out of your diet, supplements, and exercise regimens.

(2) A person heals better if they are eating better. The reality is when a person who is on a bunch of fad diets that is chronically calorie restricted comes to my office, they are not necessarily the healthiest state of metabolism. They are usually in a state of catabolism where, because of all of these fad diets/calorie restriction, they are cannibalizing their lean body mass to provide the energy to feed their basal metabolic rate. What is one of the processes that are affected? Wound healing. And an wound healing is, without a doubt, the ?name of the game? in plastic surgery. Although there are many things we cannot control in regards to the phenomena of scarring, there are many things that we can control, one of which is providing a proper nutritional state to optimize the healing process. This is achieved through eating real foods (not junk carbohydrates and processed foods), supplementing carefully, and basically engaging in a healthy lifestyle that includes plenty of exercise and rest when needed.

It?s as simple as that.

I?m very committed to bringing the total approach to beauty through natural health to all of my patients. I really but believe it all begins on the inside, with nutrition, proper supplementation, and a healthy active lifestyle. These ultimately all lead to not only a sense of well-being but in many patients, create an abiding sense of happiness which they can share with others.

It is true the plastic surgery is both an art and a science, and I?m very privileged to have a passion for pursuing both of the aspects of this wonderful craft. I?ll be talking more and more about the specific procedures that I do, while giving my particular take on the nutritional aspects regarding this procedure, and what you can do to achieve real health and real beauty.

It all begins within.
